C++ systems engineering

C++ development, integration, and performance analysis for software that needs to work with devices, communication interfaces, and real deployment environments.

Where this work fits

I work across C++ implementation, system integration, and delivery, drawing on simulator software leadership, reusable communication frameworks, and real-time hardware integration. For performance-sensitive work, I use profiling to locate bottlenecks and benchmarking to evaluate tradeoffs rather than optimizing by intuition. The goal is software whose interfaces, runtime behavior, and deployment requirements remain manageable as the surrounding system evolves.

Problems I work on

  • A C++ component works in isolation, but its behavior depends on communication, hardware, or deployment assumptions that are not explicit.
  • An existing C interface needs to fit into a C++ application without obscuring configuration or ownership of the integration boundary.
  • A performance bottleneck needs investigation before choosing between code changes, resource use, and architectural tradeoffs.

How I approach the work

  • Start with the system boundary: what the component owns, what it consumes, what it produces, and which assumptions belong to the surrounding platform.
  • Keep integration interfaces narrow and configuration visible, so platform-specific behavior does not silently become application-wide behavior.
  • Consider build, test, packaging, and deployment alongside implementation. A change is easier to reason about when its path into a usable artifact is clear.
  • Use Python where it makes configuration or supporting workflows simpler, while retaining C++ where it is appropriate for the core software and hardware interface.
  • Profile representative workloads, identify bottlenecks, and benchmark alternatives to weigh performance against complexity and maintainability.

Frequently asked questions

Is this experience limited to standalone C++ libraries?

No. The relevant work includes simulator software delivery, configurable UDP communication with C and Python components, and real-time control-loading hardware integration. The emphasis is how C++ behaves as part of an integrated system.

How do you approach C++ performance problems?

Start with a representative workload and profiling to find the bottleneck. Benchmark candidate changes and weigh their effect against memory use, complexity, and integration requirements.

A DIFFICULT PROBLEM IS A GOOD START.
